Working Pattern – Hybrid – 2 days per week in the Vitality London or Bournemouth Office. Full time hours.

What this role is all about:
Are you a clinician looking to use your skills in a different way? We have a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare professional to join us here at Vitality. Are you a junior or specialist doctor, with a GP, oncology or broad medical background? Or a clinical nurse specialist with significant research experience? Or perhaps you’re a candidate with strong experience in understanding and critiquing clinical research and evidence? Making decisions within policy frameworks, and communicating these to wider stakeholders?
The role will aid the Medical Director and wider Medical Affairs team to lead and champion evidence-based decision making and funding. To data-drive recommendations, across Vitality Health, ensuring that our members, intermediaries and the wider business has access to high quality guidance.
We are looking for someone responsible for balancing how we continue to provide access to high-quality, innovative care with the protection and control of the claims fund. The unifying theme within the role is the ability to facilitate the combined evaluation of up-to-date evidence appraisal (which the post holder will undertake). Medical information provided by members and providers, and insurance policy terms.
Key Actions
- To lead and provide expert support relating to products, treatment trends, regulatory changes and scientific activities across a broad range of therapeutic areas. To include oncology, for internal and external stakeholders
- Lead the development of new policy, being responsible for horizon scanning, understanding emerging therapies and their potential impact to claims fund. As well as developing and maintaining direct contact with external experts to gather insights and input on treatments
- Be accountable for understanding and regularly updating clinical guidance across a variety of conditions/disease areas, in line with evolving regulatory or environmental trends
- Act as a subject matter expert to support our wider claims teams and represent Vitality in provider discussions
- Identify opportunities and gaps within current processes/care pathways, and lead strategic initiatives aligned to delivering better value and health outcomes for our members. To include leading the delivery (in parts) of disease area specific strategies, e.g. cancer, mental health, musculoskeletal
- Identify, analyse, recommend and implement changes to processes and procedures where these may have or cause a risk to the claims fund. To include identifying areas of low evidence care, updating stances and underwriting guidelines and implementing these across the relevant business areas
- Collaborate with Compliance, Risk and QA departments to ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements
- Review, obtain and provide medical, clinical and scientific input on content across the business including, but not limited to marketing and promotional activities
- Guiding with a customer-focused mindset, support the delivery of new technology implementation and automation initiatives within claims, underwriting, and other business areas as required
- Lead continuous learning and development initiatives across the team, including calibration meetings and lunch & learn sessions
- Prepare and support delivery of subject specific clinical updates and training in areas of claims, underwriting, and other business areas as required
- Contribute to the publication of Vitality data and/or thought leadership to promote clinical excellence and activities
Essential Skills needed to fulfil this role:
- You will need to hold a healthcare or life sciences qualification – or very strong work experience in the absence of this. The most critical part of the role is understanding and critiquing clinical research and evidence. Making choices within policy frameworks, and communicating these to wider stakeholders
- You will have had exposure working in, or a strong understanding of one or more of healthcare, public health, clinical research, evidence synthesis medical/healthcare policy; or the pharmaceutical sector
- Candidates must be excellent communicators (written and verbal), and be able to influence choices within the team and across the wider business
- You will need to be able to work with ambiguity, understand critical appraisal inside and out. Have strong project and time management, comfortably manage multiple projects/deliverables at any one time, and excel working in a rapidly changing landscape
