Complex Health Care Worker

Location: Rastrick

Salary: £12.50 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to provide personalised care and support to an adult male with a range of severe medical conditions, including a learning disability, neurological migration disorder, quadriplegia, scoliosis, diabetes type 1, epilepsy, hyper salivation, glaucoma, and who is PEG fed. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the individual’s quality of life, promoting independence, and ensuring their overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care:
  • Assist with activities of daily living, encompassing personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming.
  • Provide support with toileting, always ensuring dignity and respect.
  • Administer medication as prescribed, following proper procedures.

  • Medical Support:
  • Monitor and manage diabetes type 1, including blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration.
  • Be vigilant in observing and responding to epilepsy episodes, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Provide support with hyper salivation management and glaucoma care.

  • Mobility Assistance:
  • Assist with safe transfers and positioning to manage quadriplegia and scoliosis.
  • Utilize adaptive equipment and assistive devices to enhance mobility.

  • Nutritional Support:
  • Administer nutrition through PEG feeding, following prescribed guidelines.
  • Monitor dietary needs and collaborate with healthcare professionals for dietary adjustments.

  • Behavioural and Emotional Support:
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment.
  • Develop a strong rapport to understand and respond to the individual’s communication and emotional needs.

  • Healthcare Collaboration:
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and therapists, to ensure coordinated care.
  • Attend medical appointments and provide accurate information about the individual’s condition and progress.

  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care activities and observations.
  • Communicate effectively with the care team and provide regular updates on the individual’s progress.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or relevant healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the mentioned medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Working Hours: The position may require flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure comprehensive care coverage.

The refer a friend scheme is worth £200 in total. This is split £100 after the person has worked 100 hours and then another £100 when they have passed probation (6 months usually).
