Job Summary by the Career Balance Team:

A Category Manager/Buyer position is available at a company based in Redditch, with a salary range of £30,000 – £35,000. The role requires experience in a similar position, knowledge of the food/retail industry, and strong market awareness. The responsibilities include supplier liaison and negotiation, understanding the commercial process of sourcing and supplying food and drink products, and maintaining relationships with suppliers and producers. Other requirements include excellent communication skills, knowledge of UK-based suppliers, and proficiency in digital and social media coordination. The candidate must also have their own transport and a full UK driving license.

Category Manager/Buyer

£30,000 – £35,000

Due to continued growth, Our client are recruiting for an experienced Category Manager / Buyer to join their existing team.

Please carefully read the below and only apply if you can demonstrate current / previous proficiency across most of the below essential criteria: –


Experience in a similar role (i.e. working for a Fine Foods business) / knowledge of the Food / Retail Industry.

Strong market (Food and Drink industry) awareness / insight / analysis capability.

Experience in Supplier liaison / negotiation, Inc. Margin / P&L comprehension.

Understanding of the commercial process relating to the sourcing and supply of Food and Drink goods / products.

Excellent communication skills with experience of dealing with Food and Drink Suppliers / Producers and Retail Customers.

Knowledge of / relationships with regional Food and Drink Suppliers and Producers based within the UK.

Capability to identify and initiate new Supplier / Producer relationships in line with quality / technical requirements.

Initiative / ability to link industry knowledge with seasonal trends to maximise the opportunity of seasonal sales.

Digital (website) and Social Media coordination experience / understanding (raising company profile within the industry).

Responsibility for the Fine Foods supplier base to ensure all levels of service expectations are being met.

New Supplier / Product setup and existing Supplier / Product maintenance (NPD process, IT system setup).

Stock control responsibility, understanding / coordinating stock holding versus customer forecasting / rate of sale.

Key Requirements: –


Own transport and full UK Driving License (based full time at our Worcestershire Head Office).

Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently, using own initiative.

Highly numerate with strong diligence / attention to detail.

Completion and recording of all company documentation as required.

Flexibility (prepared to perform any other reasonable requested duties as requested).

Strong / confident IT skills (Inc. Excel experience).
