Support Practitioner

Full Time/Part Time

Salary: £14 per hour

Holidays: 33 days per year (pro rata)

Work for an outstanding CQC rated care provider

This is a unique opportunity for the right individuals to develop a small team who have a desire to provide high quality, compassionate and empathetic care to a young woman who is moving to her own home following a lengthy stay as an inpatient in a hospital environment.

Working as part of a dedicated female only team of support practitioners providing day time support to J on a 2:1 basis. Working closely with J, her support circle and health professionals to provide the right level of support, to ensure J’s safety whilst encouraging and empowering J to have autonomy over her life.

J lives with Dissociative Identity Disorder (Formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) and is in recovery from an Eating Disorder.

It would be advantageous to have experience of working with and/or supporting people with complex trauma, dissociation, self-harm, eating disorders, sensory difficulties and attachment issues. However, if you would be open to learning about and understanding these difficulties, we encourage you to apply! Full training on J’s diagnosis and how best to support her will be provided.

A car driver is  a requirement for the role as J hopes that once she is settled in her new home, to be able to access places by foot and work towards using public transport.

J hopes to eventually adopt a rescue dog and has a love of animals large and small. J enjoys listening to music and watching documentaries.

J will need support from staff who are able to be active and happy to support her on daily long walks and other sporting activities.

J has a love for nature, follows a vegan lifestyle and wishes to pursue an eco-friendly way of life so an interest in this would be desirable but not essential.

J is keen to learn about new opportunities and needs people that can guide and explore these with her and also suggest new activities/places to visit and who can be adaptable, responsive and calm when under pressure. J is very anxious about new situations and what to expect, her past experiences mean that she/other personalities don’t always respond in a way that others would expect.

J will also need support with developing new routines, managing medication, sorting finances, paying bills and attending appointments.

We want to develop our staff to be skilled professionals who go the extra mile and:

  • Are accepting, open minded and have a willingness to get to know J and learn about her diagnoses.

  • See J and each of the other identities as individuals, adapting approaches as needed to ensure positive outcomes whilst respect and dignity is maintained.

  • Are committed to making a positive impact and maintain a supportive environment.

  • Are good communicators who are able to read and respond to verbal and nonverbal signs of anxiety and distress by providing consistent clear boundaries.

  • Display or gain a good understanding of issues experienced by people who have experienced severe trauma and long term hospitalisation.

  • Have a willingness to foster a healthy and balanced attitude towards food and body image.

  • Have a compatible personality, sense of humour and can develop a trusting, professional relationship.
