The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Specifications Technologist at our Bakery in Northwich, Cheshire.

 

Job Purpose: To ensure that all customer product specifications and artwork comply with all legal / food safety / quality requirements. To generate and maintain accurate finished product specifications for all customers and own brand products and manage the specification process end to end.

What you will contribute:

  • Ensure finished product specifications are generated in approved customer formats for all customers and own brand product to agreed timescales. This information is validated from information supplied by the NPD team.
  • The specification technologist will be responsible for building information in a specification, including the recipe table, from both individual raw materials and compound ingredients with multiple components.
  • Once written and submitted the specification technologist will be responsible for managing the full specification approval process to the final sign off stage.
  • The specification technologists are responsible for a technical sign-off of packaging and artwork to ensure all pack copy information corresponds with information provided on the product specifications as well as the finished product formulation.
  • Liaise closely with the Purchasing department and Development Technologists to ensure critical path dates are met for the submission of accurate artwork information and ultimate launch date timings.
  • Participate, when necessary, in product approval meetings with select customers as required as part of the pre-production process to ensure compliance with customer codes of practice and food safety
  • Maintain awareness of customer specific policies, legal requirements and changes in codes of practise documentation to ensure factory adherence to requirements as communicated from the Food Safety Quality Team
  • Maintain retailer portals ensuring contact details are kept up to date and alerts are communicated to the wider business

What you will bring:

  • Food labelling experience
  • Experience and demonstratable competency in completing customer format specifications end to end (M&S, Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Brakes etc.) and creating in house format specifications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Food Manufacturing Processes
  • Strong communication and organisational skills​, both verball and written
  • Understanding and application of HACCP principles​ and allergen control

 

Training

  • Food Safety Level 2 – required
  • HACCP Level 2 – required
  • Allergen training – required

Key interfaces: NPD, Food Safety and Quality, Operations

 

Reports to: Food Safety and Quality Services Manager
