Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist
Location: Milton Keynes
Reports To: Clinical Lead/Line Manager
Responsible For: Specialist Occupational Therapist / Occupational Therapist
Main Purpose
Join our multidisciplinary team, leading the occupational therapy (OT) provision within our Neurobehavioral model for service users with acquired brain injury (ABI). You will coordinate OT services, engage with stakeholders, and ensure high standards of care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- Autonomously manage a caseload of service users with complex needs, utilizing your expertise in neurological rehabilitation.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, formulate treatment plans, and implement interventions using evidence-based practices.
- Oversee and delegate tasks to support staff, ensuring effective handovers and continuity of care.
- Perform detailed risk assessments and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Facilitate the rehabilitation process, including planning and evaluating group interventions.
- Liaise sensitively with service users, families, and other professionals to support rehabilitation goals.
Leadership
- Lead and support the OT team, managing workloads and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Participate in quality improvement and service development initiatives.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes.
- Support recruitment and development of OT staff and students.
Evidence and Development
- Engage in research, audit projects, and service evaluations to inform and enhance clinical practice.
- Implement and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and policies.
- Stay current with advancements in ABI rehabilitation and comply with research governance standards.
Facilitation of Learning
- Mentor and supervise junior staff and students, providing training and promoting professional growth.
- Participate in professional networks to share knowledge and best practices.
- Lead and support team learning and development initiatives.
Personal Development
- Maintain and enhance your professional competence through continuous learning and reflective practice.
- Participate in mandatory training and seek opportunities for further development.
Additional Duties
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.
- Effectively manage time and adapt to changing work demands and priorities.
- Manage challenging behaviors with professionalism and compassion.
- Assist service users with personal care and mobility needs, following approved techniques.
Requirements
- Ability to work independently within a specialist clinical area.
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered with HCPC
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with service users and families.
- Commitment to high standards of clinical practice and professional development.
- Experience in managing complex cases within a neurological setting.
