Thames Water is seeking a Senior Project Manager to play a crucial role in the construction of a new water pumping station. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered to regulatory expectations within the water industry. Key responsibilities include accountability throughout the project lifecycle, developing procurement strategies, managing contractors, and promoting health and safety. The ideal candidate will have an engineering or relevant degree, chartered status, and experience delivering major complex projects in a regulated infrastructure environment. Job Description:The Senior Project Manageris a crucial leadership role within our Thames Water Major Projects Teams. This role will play a prominent part in building a new water pumping station to build resilience to water treatment water, which supplies vital water supplies to 1000 million customers a day.

This role will play a vital part in a team to help ensure we deliver projects to regulatory expectations within the water industry.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Project Manager

  • Take accountability throughout the project lifecycle, governance compliance, and internal/external stakeholder engagement leading to the smooth transition into operational business.
  • Support the definition of solutions to meet the project objectives and will be responsible for preparing a clear business case.
  • Develop the best procurement strategy for the project and oversee the production of the specifications and contract documentation.
  • Develop a strategy for obtaining any required third-party consents, highlighting program and project risks relating to the consents required.
  • Effective liaison with the relevant town planning authorities as well as key internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth running and timely project delivery.
  • Promote and sustain Thames Water’s Health and safety vision (zero incidents, zero harm, zero compromises) throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Manage and ensure the performance of contractors to deliver project outcomes to time, cost, and quality.
  • Contribute to steering project-wide continuous improvement and delivering against stretching targets.
  • Commercially manage all contract matters to achieve the optimal outcome for Thames Water.

Hybrid – Coppermills London or Clearwater Court Reading

36 hours a week, Monday to Friday

What you should bring to the role

  • An engineering or other relevant degree and chartered status with either a post-graduate business or project management qualification.
  • Be of a technical-based mindset.
  • Broad utility industry and business knowledge with prior involvement in delivering major complex projects (up to £100m in value) within a regulated infrastructure environment.
  • Knowledgeable in managing contract specification preparation, tendering, and tender evaluation processes with experience in negotiation.
  • Demonstrate your capability with risk-based and analytical decision-making.
  • Excellent management skills across multi-disciplined teams as well as excellent communication skills.
