The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering the PR strategy to promote key initiatives and enhance the image and reputation across all learning types. Key responsibilities include managing outsourced PR activities, monitoring and analyzing media coverage, measuring the effectiveness of communications initiatives, managing internal communications, and developing key messages. The candidate should have relevant qualifications and experience in public relations, marketing, and crisis communications. Experience in long-form content writing, media relations, and project management is also required.

Ideal Recruit are looking for a Senior Communications Officer to join our client’s team in Nelson. The successful candidate will design and deliver the PR strategy to promote key initiatives and enhance image and reputation across all learning types and focusing on good growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for managing outsourced PR activities, ensuring the service prioritises and delivers strategic communications to support objectives
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage and develop appropriate responses to negative coverage, as well as identifying and responding to industry trends
  • Measure the effectiveness of communications and engagement initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage the strategy development and execution of internal communications, helping to embed values and culture to support business growth.
  • Develop, execute and evaluate key message delivery throughout the organisation and work with, and support, all teams to ensure consistency of communications within all messaging and branding.
  • Manage crisis communications and relationships.
  • Utilise relevant, effective AI tools to support content development.
  • Manage all communications activity budgeting, forecast and spend.
  • Ensure communications activity delivers maximum impact across the entire customer journey through alignment with the pipeline management process and the Sales & School Liaison Teams.
  • Continuously improve communications process flows through templatization and automation.
  • Lead the creative thinking for all communications, working with the Senior Marketing Campaigns Lead to identify key target audiences and define goals, conducting market research to analyse trends and identify opportunities.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all communications-related inquiries and act as a marketing link person for cross-college colleagues, providing effective communication solutions for business needs.
  • Monitor communications metrics and KPIs to continuously iterate and optimise activity as well as briefing internal stakeholders.
  • Prioritise and schedule work effectively, anticipating problems and adjusting the allocation of resources and time accordingly.
  • Support the broader marketing department e.g. with proofing support, other projects and events, as required.
  • Play a key role at team meetings, sharing ideas, best practice and keeping others up to date with delivery.

Requirements:

  • 4 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at Grade C or above or experience to demonstrate this level of knowledge.
  • Professional qualification in Public Relations or Marketing (CIPR or CIM) or working towards (equivalent experience may be considered for the ideal candidate).
  • Relevant degree level qualification.
  • Proven track record in press release writing and media selling to achieve coverage across trade, national and broadcast press.
  • Experience managing strategic development of internal communications, embedding values and strengthening cultures.
  • Proven track record in long-form content writing, to engage, inform, persuade and excite a wide range of audiences.
  • Proven track record building and maintaining strong media relations
  • Essential A proven track record of innovative approaches to marketing communications
  • Essential Experience managing effective crisis communications and engagement initiatives
  • Essential Proven track record of working with outsourced marketing services, ensuring high levels of engagement and effective delivery at all times
  • A proven track record of strong project management capability, keeping yourself and others on track and accountable
  • Essential Excellent writing and proof-reading skills with good attention to detail and broad experience writing for different purposes and audience groups
  • Essential Experience working with AI tools to enhance content and communications
  • Essential Experience of using WordPress, Hootsuite, Campaign Monitor and Canva Desirable
  • Experience of working in an education setting
