We’re seeking an exceptional Diplomate-level surgeon to join us as Senior Clinician or Professor in Small Animal Surgery , based at our award-winning Small Animal Hospital on the beautiful Garscube Estate in Glasgow. This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled, visionary surgeon with academic ambitions, with the potential to evolve into a professorial leadership role.

About the role

You’ll play a leading role in our surgical service, working alongside a talented, supportive team.

As a Senior Clinician (Grade 9), you will have responsibility for:

  • Clinical leadership: Deliver and develop a high-quality surgical referral service, including participation in the out-of-hours rota. Support innovation in diagnosis, treatment, and novel surgical techniques, contributing to hospital quality assurance and service development, including opportunities for income generation.
  • Teaching & mentorship: Inspire and guide undergraduates, interns, residents, and postgraduate clinical scholars by delivering high-quality clinical teaching, supporting their clinical duties, research projects, Board exam preparation, and professional development.
  • Research & scholarship: Lead and contribute to high-quality clinical research, including collaborative trials and external partnerships, with dedicated off-clinic time. Publish in high-quality journals and present at national/international events and seminars.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively across the multidisciplinary team and across Garscube & Gilmorehill campuses, ensuring the best outcomes for patients, students, and colleagues.

At Professor level (Grade 10), you will build on the responsibilities above and also:

  • Provide academic, clinical and strategic leadership , shaping the future vision of our surgery service, hospital and School.
  • Lead an internationally recognised research programme , with a sustained track record of high-impact publications and competitive grant funding.
  • Act as a mentor and role model, supporting the development and career progression of junior academics, clinical scholars, and colleagues.
  • Play a major role in the strategic expansion of the School , building national and international partnerships across divisions, institutes and external organisations, and enhancing our global profile.

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • An RCVS-registrable veterinary medicine degree
  • A postgraduate Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (ECVS, ACVS or RCVS)
  • Extensive experience in small animal surgery with a track record of clinical research and publication
  • Proven ability to inspire, teach and mentor at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • A collaborative spirit, strong leadership skills, and the vision to shape the future of our surgical service

At Professor level , you’ll also bring:

  • An international reputation in small animal surgery research
  • Significant experience in academic leadership and strategy
  • A proven record of mentoring, postgraduate supervision, and clinical programme development
