111Job Description:As part of the Protective Security Team, you will be directing and controlling the performance of physical security and ensuring some of our critical assets are secure.
As well as managing and protecting our infrastructure assets you will contribute to ensuring there is a robust response to operational and security incidents.

You will play a key role in mitigating the risks to Thame Water from national security threats including terrorism, unlawful protesters, and crime.

What you’ll be doing as a Regional Security Advisor
You will be the link between our regulator’s guidance and the business, liaising with external agencies on a regular basis. An ambassador for promoting security within the business to ensure Thames Water’s people, processes, premises, and assets’ security is maintained.

  • As a subject matter expert, you will be aware of legislative and best practice industry and sector guidance.
  • Provide practical security advice aligned with relevant regulation, policy, and standards.
  • Conduct security investigations as required.
  • Conduct security risk assessments across our estate providing site assessments & operational requirements in line with existing standards and processes and protective security risk management principles.
  • Promote common standards and alignment of security policy and practice across Thames Water including responsibility for compliance assessments, waivers & derogations.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing new concepts, technologies, and solutions to challenges.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders including, Intelligence Agencies, Specialist Police Units, Local Resilience Forums & Regulators including DEFRA and DWI.
  • Create reports, provide briefings, and update systems.
  • Line management responsibilities, providing ongoing training and support and 1-2-1 reviews.
  • Attend senior risk review boards and develop briefing materials for senior business leaders.
  • Testing and exercising of our security arrangements to ensure that our people, systems, plans, and procedures are compliant with requirements.
  • Planning and responsibility for bespoke security projects which will involve working with project teams to oversee security upgrades and other initiatives.
  • Audit our operational sites and systems to ensure they are compliant with requirements.

 We’re looking for you to

  • Have a background in physical security (protective security, intelligence, security management, or risk management) or experience in the water industry along with a background in water engineering or civil engineering and a willingness to develop into a security role.
  • Have experience in the design and application of physical & personnel security measures and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of technical requirements in areas such as VSS, intruder detection and access control.
  • Have experience of working in a regulated environment i.e., utilities, government department, national infrastructure etc.
  • Understand physical security principles, methodology and processes. Including the NPSA principles of Deter, Detect, Delay, Mitigate and Respond as part of a layered protective security design.
  • Have experience of conducting security risk assessments and report writing.
  • Have experience of investigating security incidents.
  • Be able to communicate at all levels, present to an audience and build strong relationships.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and strong negotiation and people influencing skills.
  • Be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power Bi)
  • Experience in leading on physical security projects.
  • Self-motivated, committed, and organised.

What’s in it for you?

  • Offering a salary between £46,000 – £47,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • Car Allowance of £4,500 per annum.
  • 26 days holiday per year increasing to 28 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)

  • This is a Hybrid role, split between site visits, office, and home.
  • Travel will be required across the whole of the Thames Water estate.
