The role
As a Principal Design Change Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll drive innovation in submarine structures and naval architecture for the Royal Navy’s fleet by taking the lead in crucial design modifications, enhancing performance and advancing technology in maritime engineering.
Day-to-day, you’ll collaborate with a dedicated team, delivering high-quality engineering management and technical support to customers and internal teams. Your expertise will drive informed decision-making, ensuring that design changes meet all requirements while enhancing performance and advancing maritime innovation.
Oversee the delivery of design changes by refining capabilities, managing sub-contractors, and ensuring effective project management.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships, aligning design modifications with operational needs and ensuring timely availability.
Expand the scope of design changes, increasing project volume and efficiency within the team.
Represent SSE Constructive Group in design change development, driving enterprise LFE, best practices, and process enhancements.
Ensure technical excellence in design changes, providing engineering expertise for informed decision-making and assurance activities.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Principal Design Change Engineer
Deep understanding of marine structures and naval architecture, ensuring seamless integration of design modifications.
Build strong relationships to drive effective collaboration and successful outcomes.
A robust background in engineering leadership, guiding technical decision-making and strategic execution.
Identify and capitalise on opportunities, driving continuous innovation.
Inspire teams with effective leadership, ensuring seamless project execution
Qualifications for the Principal Design Change Engineer
Engineering or Project Management Degree – Strong academic foundation with hands-on engineering experience.
Chartered Engineer Status – Currently Chartered or eligible for immediate application
