Matchtech has partnered with BAE Systems, a leader in the Defence and Security sector, to find experienced Mechanical Fitters to join their expanding team in Barrow-in-Furness.
You’ll play a vital role within a specialist team, working on latest generation of naval frigates, the Type 26. This 12-month contract offers competitive rates for both local candidates and those willing to commute.
Combining your marine industry experience with a background in complex mechanical systems, this is an ideal opportunity for you. Experience with HGVs will also be beneficial, as the role involves working with large-scale mechanical equipment.
What Will I Be Doing?
As a skilled Mechanical Fitter, you’ll assembling, installing, and maintaining the mechanical systems that power and support the Type 26 Frigate.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need experience in:
Mechanical Systems Installation: Assemble, install, and overhaul propulsion, weapons, reactor, and auxiliary systems, including HVAC and power generation.
Precision Engineering: Use hand tools and machinery to cut, drill, shape, and finish components to precise engineering tolerances.
Testing & Fault Diagnosis: Conduct inspections, testing, and diagnostics on mechanical systems, identifying and rectifying faults.
Maintenance & Reliability: Perform planned and corrective maintenance to ensure systems operate reliably and efficiently.
