A Mechanical Services Estimator is being sought to join a team, responsible for preparing precise cost estimates for mechanical services projects valued between £10,000 and £350,000. The role encompasses analysing project documentation, obtaining supplier quotations, preparing tenders, and facilitating smooth project handovers. Candidates should possess an HNC, HND, or degree in a relevant discipline and have 2-5 years of estimating experience in HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection. Technical proficiency and knowledge of UK regulations are essential. Strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively are also required, along with flexibility for site visits.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Services Estimator to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical services projects ranging from £10,000 to £350,000 in value.
These projects may include Plumbing, Heating, ventilation, AC and associated packages associated with the mechanical installations across commercial, industrial, and public sector environments.
Key Responsibilities: Estimating and Costing: Analyse project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labour estimates.
Undertake material take-offs and labour assessments based on mechanical plans and specifications.
Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to determine project costs.
Include indirect costs such as preliminaries, supervision, plant, and equipment.
Ensure estimates are prepared in accordance with company procedures and client requirements.
Tendering: Prepare and submit accurate and timely quotations and tender submissions.
Review and interpret scope of works, contract terms, and tender documentation.
Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal teams during the bidding process.
Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits to assess project requirements and conditions.
Project Handover: Facilitate a smooth handover to the project delivery team post-award.
Provide input on budgets, timescales, and technical matters during project mobilisation.
Participate in post-tender reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future estimates.
Cost Control & Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide value engineering suggestions where appropriate.
Work with design and project teams to optimise solutions during the estimation phase.
Required Qualifications & & Experience: HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical services estimating for small to medium-sized projects.
Proven experience in commercial or industrial HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection estimating is essential.
Technical Skills: Sound understanding of mechanical services systems and installation methods.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and estimating software packages.
Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and industry standards (e.g.
CIBSE, BSRIA, British Standards).
Soft Skills: High level of attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
Strong organisational and time management abilities.
Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
Desirable: Membership or affiliation with relevant professional bodies (e.g.
CIBSE, IMechE).
Experience with design-and-build projects and knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Work.
Working Conditions: Office-based with occasional travel to project sites for meetings and assessments.
Standard working hours with flexibility around tender deadlines.
