Platform Engineers are cloud-agnostic and may have niche skills applicable to specific technologies, business units or organizations but fundamentally are responsible for both guiding technical aspects of a project and managing the team to ensure successful delivery, maintaining a strong commercial focus to optimise operational expenditure.

Location: This role could be based in either our Wythall, Telford, London or Edinburgh offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

The role
The Lead Platform Engineer plays a critical role in the design and delivery of high quality engineering services. Platform Engineers are cloud-agnostic and may have niche skills applicable to specific technologies, business units or organizations but fundamentally are responsible for both guiding technical aspects of a project and managing the team to ensure successful delivery, maintaining a strong commercial focus to optimise operational expenditure.
Key Responsibilities:
– Design of lower level solutions in readiness for engineering and execution, i.e. deliver technical specifications and designs
– Works in conjunction with Architecture & Strategy to set the direction for their area to ensure high quality engineering, understanding how this links to the change delivery strategy and business strategy as a whole
– Build and maintain relationships with strategic partners at senior level to ensure maximum contribution from partner organisations.
– Providing engineering capabilities to support delivery of change, ensuring alignment to business outcomes
– Provides input into the shaping, planning and execution of major programs which relate to their area
– Coaches and supports others as required
What are we looking for?
– Deep knowledge of Cloud hyperscalers (Microsoft Azure, AWS) and ideally major SaaS solutions (Salesforce and Oracle HR & Finance)
– Experience of key automation and other ‘enabling’ tooling, including but not limited to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK), Observability (Dynatrace) and DevSecOps toolchain (Atlassian Jira & Confluence, Github Enterprise, Artifactory)
– Experience of ‘modern’ IT delivery and engineering practices, i.e. Platform and Product based organisations – ideally having experience of transitioning to this model from more traditional ways of working
– Experience with automation and self-service deployment of secure & scalable solutions
– Strategic mindset with a focus on driving towards an architecturally led vision and roadmap Risk management – understanding of the delivery risks faced by IT delivery and the controls in place to manage & mitigate these risks
