Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

BR135 – Engineering Section Head (Sp54)

“This is a key leadership position within the Engineering Department. You will be responsible and accountable for delivery of System Health management at site, from managing appropriate inspection and testing activities, to prioritising and funding significant upgrade and repair initiatives.
You will be directly accountable to the Site Engineering Manager and will be in a position to direct the site strategy to ensure our key plant and equipment is fit for purpose to deliver the Business Plan. You will have direct line management responsibility for all Systems Engineering team staff and will work closely with the other maintenance and safety case managers within Engineering to provide cross-department leadership.
We are looking for someone who is prepared to challenge, drive for streamlining our process whilst ensuring that we have fit for purpose arrangements. The successful candidate will be capable of looking forwards and mixing tried and tested practices with up and coming new technologies and innovative thinking.”
Please note the contractual hours for this role are Monday – Thursday, perfect for someone looking for a four day working week.
Key Deliverables:
Ensure that surveillance of plant and structures is maintained along with the long term health of plant systems.
Devise and implement asset care strategies for all key site buildings, plant and equipment.
Ensure any plant problems are investigated promptly and appropriate actions taken.
Provide compelling technical advice to the Engineering Manager as necessary.
Undertake delegated responsibility for Design Authority for the site as required.
Act as Engineer Responsible for the Maintenance Schedule (ERMS).
Qualifications & Experience:
Significant experience in Nuclear, Industrial or Construction/Demolition industry. (Essential)
Minimum HNC/D with significant experience, National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5. (Essential)
Degree in Engineering or relevant subject, National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 6. (Desirable)
Chartered Engineering Status. (Desirable)
Knowledge of safety legislation, including CDM. (Desirable) #INDOR

Flexible working – where possible.
The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
