Head of Finance

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is seeking a part-time Head of Finance to oversee its financial operations for 16 hours per week. The successful candidate will lead a small finance team, managing daily processes, preparing monthly management accounts, and supporting strategic planning through financial reporting. Responsibilities include preparing the annual budget, year-end accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial governance. The position offers flexibility in working patterns, primarily based at the sanctuary in Chard. Candidates should possess finance experience and a collaborative approach, with a genuine interest in the charity's mission, although prior charity experience is not essential.

Head of Finance (Part Time 16 hours per week) Are you a hands-on finance professional looking for a flexible, part-time role working for a small independent charity? Ferne Animal Sanctuary is seeking a Head of Finance to lead our small finance team and take responsibility for the charity’s financial operations.

In this key role, you’ll manage day-to-day processes, support strategic planning through clear financial reporting, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our work protecting animals in need.

You’ll be supported by two team members, including an Assistant Finance Manager, and will be responsible for: Overseeing the day-to-day finance function Preparing monthly management accounts with commentary Preparing the annual budget Preparing year-end accounts to trial balance and liaising with auditors Presenting financial reports to the CEO and Board of Trustees Supporting compliance and good financial governance This role offers flexibility on working pattern, though most of the role will be based at the sanctuary in Chard.

About you You’ll bring experience in finance and reporting, a confident, collaborative style, and a practical approach to supporting an experienced small team.

Charity experience is welcome but not essential, we’re more interested in your ability to combine sound financial management with a genuine interest in our mission.
