Are you an experienced ECC Vet looking for a role where you can truly make an impact?

Do you thrive on the adrenaline and challenge of emergency medicine , managing complex cases while working alongside a supportive team ? Are you searching for a position that values both your professional growth and your wellbeing ?

If so, we’d love to welcome you to The Lighthouse – Optivet’s 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care Hospital , where collaboration, compassion, and clinical excellence come first.

A Bit About Us

At The Lighthouse , we understand that pet emergencies don’t wait for convenient hours — which is why we’re here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , delivering swift, effective, and compassionate care whenever it’s needed most.

We have the huge advantage of sharing the hospital with the Optivet referral team , being able to offer clients a smooth in-house referral for the cases that require it, but also benefit from discussing our cases with the specialist team within the Ophthalmology, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Anaesthesia departments (with the occasional visit from Cardiologists and Diagnostic Imagers). This close collaboration means you’ll always have expert support and countless opportunities to learn and grow as a vet.

You’ll work within a state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary hospital , supported by advanced diagnostics, modern theatres, and a highly skilled nursing team.

Our ethos is simple: to provide ethical, patient-first care while fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where our team can thrive. We’re independent , which means we stay focused on what truly matters — the wellbeing of our patients, our clients, and our people.

Our ECC service is growing rapidly, and with that growth comes a renewed commitment to consistency, excellence, and teamwork. We’re now looking for passionate, proactive vets to help shape the next phase of our journey. Whether you prefer to work day shifts, night shifts, or a mix of both, we’d love to hear from you and chat about a rota that suits you!

Be a Vital Part of Our ECC Team

As part of our ECC team, you’ll manage a wide range of medical, surgical, and high-dependency cases but this isn’t just another ECC role — it’s a genuine opportunity to make a tangible difference, help build and shape a service that embodies the best of independent emergency care, and be part of a warm, collaborative team that supports each other every step of the way.

This position is particularly appealing for vets whose passion lies in Emergency and Critical Care , but who may not wish to work night shifts indefinitely. It’s a rare opportunity to focus exclusively on ECC while working more balanced, daytime hours — all within an independent practice that’s genuinely proud of the exceptional service it provides.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is registered with the RCVS and ideally holds an ECC certificate (or is working towards one)
  • Is calm under pressure and enjoys variety
  • Collaborates seamlessly across disciplines while leading confidently when needed
  • Has excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Is passionate about delivering the highest standard of patient and client care

T he rota

We know that work-life balance is key to thriving in ECC. At the moment, the shifts are divided into days (12h) and nights (13h) , with 30-minute overlaps allowing for handover. However, we would be open to 8-hour shifts to split the day if this is a more sustainable option for the right candidate. We are flexible and open to both full-time and part-time options, and our team of vets is always happy to accommodate swaps when possible.

Our package

  • Salary of £60,000 to £70,000 per annum
  • Holiday entitlement of 232 hours per year
  • CPD allowance per year
  • Professional memberships paid for
  • Private health care
  • SMART pension
  • Free onsite parking
  • Pet insurance contribution
  • Electric car scheme

If this sounds like the role you’ve been searching for, we’d love to hear from you. Call us for an informal chat or apply today and take the next step in your emergency and critical care career at The Lighthouse .
