The Independent Football Regulator (IFR) has been established to protect and promote the sustainability of English football, for the benefit of fans and the local communities football clubs serve.

The IFR’s objectives are:

  • to protect and promote the financial soundness of regulated clubs;
  • to protect and promote the financial resilience of English football;
  • to safeguard the heritage of English football.

On a day-to-day basis, we will supervise clubs against a licensing regime; set standards for clubs; and monitor, protect and promote financial resilience. The IFR has significant powers under the Football Governance Act and, if necessary, will use powers to enforce compliance on financial regulation, club owners and directors, fan engagement and heritage protection.

The IFR is seeking a visionary and dynamic Director of Supervision and Interventions to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the sustainability and integrity of English football. This is a rare opportunity to lead at the forefront of a transformative regulatory era, ensuring clubs operate within the framework of the Football Governance Act 2025.

As Director, you will be instrumental in delivering the IFR’s core objectives: promoting the financial soundness of regulated clubs, enhancing the resilience of the football ecosystem, and preserving the rich heritage of the game. You will lead the design and implementation of a new regulatory regime, oversee the Owners, Directors and Senior Executives tests, and enforce the IFR’s powers where necessary.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone ready to shape policy, drive compliance, and make a lasting difference to the future of English football
