Margate, Kent

Permanent, Full time – 40 hours per week on a rolling shift pattern

MTC are recruiting Detention Custody Managers (DCMs) to join our fantastic team working at Manston Short-Term Holding facility.

This is a permanent, full-time position. Our site operates 24/7, so contracts are based on a working week of 40 hours & a rolling shift pattern. In return for your hard work and dedication, we offer a salary of £34,099 per annum, along with a great range of benefits which includes (but are not limited to), Company pension (up to 10%), cycle to work Scheme, life assurance, enhanced annual leave scheme, and many development opportunities which often lead to internal promotions.

Your working hours will be 40 per week with a varied shift pattern on a rolling basis. The shifts will be as follows:

Early shift: 07:30 to 16:00

Late shift: 14:00 to 22:30

A shift: 07:00 to 22:00

D shift: 08:00 to 22:00

M shift: 08:00 to 20:30

Nights: 20:00 to 08:00 (7 nights on, 7 days/nights off – approx. every 7-8 weeks)

The responsibilities of our Detention Custody Manager:

Leading a team of Officers, you will create a safe, secure and decent environment that provides an empathetic and caring security and escorting service for asylum seekers who have only recently arrived in the UK. You will be responsible for their welfare and safety whilst they are going through the Home Office immigration processes. You will manage an area of operations on site, reporting to our senior management team, whilst developing and coaching your team to deliver a supportive and welfare-driven service.

The key requirements of the Detention Custody Manager:

Skills and experience

  • A background in custody, detention, care or working with vulnerable people, is beneficial but not essential.
  • If you have worked in a 24/7 operational setting, this is highly desirable.
  • We are looking for individuals who are passionate about transforming lives to join our mission of empowering people to make positive life choices and help to transform lives.
  • People management experience is essential to the role of DCM, as we need experienced, empathetic managers to join the team.

Approach and attitude

  • You will need to remain open-minded, be able to deal with challenging situations whilst demonstrating our core values of being caring, transparent, collaborative and being accountable!
  • We’re looking for kind, compassionate individuals who is adaptable to changing needs and priorities and have great communication skills.

Clearance and vetting

  • You will undertake Counter-terrorism Clearance (CTC) as part of the onboarding process.

Training

  • If you are successful in the recruitment process, your role will also involve completing a 4/5-week initial training course which includes de-escalation and Control & Restraint training.
