Dorothy House is a Wiltshire based hospice providing compassionate care and support for people in our community with a life-limiting illness. Our focus is on quality of life, helping patients to live well and die well. We create individual care journeys, which start at diagnosis and continue with bereavement support for family, carers and children.
We have an exciting opportunity! We are looking for a Deputy Care Manager that will be instrumental in helping us shape our incredible Hospice at Home service.
DEPUTY CARE MANAGER | Band 6 £35,392 – £42,618 per annum
As Deputy Care Manager, you will deputise in the absence of Hospice at Home Service Manager and support the leadership and delivery of an efficient and effective Hospice at Home service.
Duties will include:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Hospice at Home Team, ensuring the highest standards of care delivery and achieving a high level of patient and family satisfaction. Oversee daily activities and ensure seamless service provision.
- Assist and support the Hospice at Home Service Manager in contributing to the development of the Hospice at Home Team. Help to implement strategies that enhance team performance and service efficiency.
- Deputize in the absence of the Hospice at Home Service Manager, making informed decisions and providing thorough reports and handovers upon their return to ensure continuity of care.
- Work closely with the Service Manager to ensure the safe and efficient running of daily operations, maintaining compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) health regulations and standards.
- Lead, train, and support the Senior Care Worker team, ensuring all required assessments are completed accurately to allow for comprehensive risk management and high-quality care provision.
- Respond to concerns and complaints from patients, families, or professionals, ensuring follow-ups and outcomes are in line with the organization’s Complaints Procedure and maintaining high levels of service satisfaction.
- Contribute to service innovation and quality improvement by continuously reviewing current services, developing high-quality, contemporary care, and fostering a culture that places patients and families at the heart of everything we do.
- Collaborate with the Service Manager to maintain budgetary control, ensuring that care is delivered within the allocated budget and that the full capabilities of the wider team are effectively utilized.

HOURS OF WORK
This is a full time position. Working 37.5 hours, Monday – Friday.
You will support the delivery of an efficient 24-hour, 7-day Hospice at Home service, including providing out-of-hours manager on-call support on a 2-week rota, covering 7 consecutive days from 17:00 to 09:00 on standby.
ABOUT YOU
Essential requirements:
- Level 4 in Health and Social Care / equivalent experience.
- Experience working in Care Planning and service delivery including referral triage and assessment planning.
- Experience working as a social care provider ensuring CQC compliance in assessments and care planning is upheld
- Experience of working with Health and Social Care professionals outside own organisation.
- Experience of managing and leading staff/carers
- Experience supporting safe discharges from hospital
- Can demonstrate communicating with a wide range of health/social care professionals, patients and carers and the general public.
- Able to record, analyse and interpret complex and sensitive information
- Can demonstrate using sound judgment in difficult/ emotional situations
- Can demonstrate leadership values and acting as role model for other team members.
- Current UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
Desirable requirements:
- Experience of working in or with patients who are End of Life or receiving Palliative Care
- Experience with delivering training and working with patient databases
- Experience of Continuing HealthCare and working in a Multi-Disciplinary Team
