Consultant Psychiatrist, Essex Location: Essex (Greater London Area) Salary: Up to £170,000 Hours: 37.5 per week Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time Consultant Psychiatrist required for a Specialist Low Secure Service Gilbert Meher is partnered with a leading private mental health provider which is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a well-established team at one of its specialist hospitals in Essex.

This role is ideal for a compassionate and skilled professional committed to delivering high-quality care within a secure forensic mental health setting.

About the Service The facility provides low secure forensic services for men aged 50 and over, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, including personality disorders and dementia, as well as physical healthcare requirements.

Patients are cared for in two purpose-built, 13-bed male units designed to promote dignity, recovery, and age-appropriate support.

The Role As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will take clinical responsibility for patients and provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team.

You will be instrumental in driving a patient-centric, recovery-focused approach to care.

Key Responsibilities: Lead clinical assessments, care planning, treatment interventions, and patient reviews Collaborate closely with psychologists, nurses, therapists, and external partners Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and contribute to clinical governance Participate in on-call rotations and ensure continuity of quality care Support service development and quality improvement initiatives Mentor junior medical staff and contribute to training programs Candidate Requirements Full GMC registration with specialist registration in psychiatry CCST / CCT (or equivalent) in relevant psychiatric specialty Experience working in forensic and/or secure inpatient settings Thorough understanding of Clinical Governance and CQC requirements Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams What’s on Offer Competitive salary of up to £170,000 per annum 30 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays Company pension scheme and life assurance Medical indemnity cover Free on-site parking and access to staff wellbeing initiatives Career progression within a nationally respected healthcare group This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful patient outcomes within a supportive, specialist setting.
