111Job Description:The System Operations team include the Waste Control shift team, who monitor the “Drain to River” lifecycle of the waste system. The Waste Control team utilise multiple in-house bespoke built digital tools, to aid with the identification, mitigation and reporting of pollution and other issues on the waste network. 

The purpose of this role is to be the Subject Matter Expert within Waste System Operations, for the Smart Waste Digital Tools used by the Waste System Operations Control team. Assisting with the development and delivery of elements of technical digital solutions and supporting business processes on Smart Waste tools, for example, relating to event duration monitoring, network blockage monitoring and enhanced pumping station data analysis.

What you’ll be doing as a Catchment Analyst

  • This role will be the Waste System Operations, subject matter expert, on how the Smart Waste Digital Data Insight tools work. You will fully understand the business requirements, business usage, configuration and functionality of the Smart Waste Decision Support Tools used by the System Operations team at Thames Water. 
  • You will define the processes and activities for the team to follow based on the insight provided by the tools. This will include the interfaces the tools have with other corporate system g., GIS and Scada.
  • You will lead training sessions to ensure all team members are competent in the use of digital products and the associated agreed business processes.
  • You will work closely with the digital team and Product Owner, working under an Agile framework, to build and enhance the Data Insight tools.
  • Also, as part of your role, you will be optimising catchment management, collecting, and analysing complex technical data providing expert commentary, advice, and recommendations, as appropriate.
  • You will be required to produce detailed management reports and presentations on aspects of data quality and availability and work with internal and external stakeholders to address gaps and issues.
  • Supporting and coaching less experienced colleagues to contribute to the development of the team.

This is a hybrid role with 3 days working in our Kemble Court office and 2 days at home.

What you should bring to the role

  • We are seeking an engaging person with a degree (or equivalent) in a Scientific or Technical field with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • You will have confident presentational skills, as well as strong written, verbal technical and non-technical communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organisational abilities with a great eye for detail.
  • Beneficial but not essential, to have experience working within an operational business environment. (ideally water/waste utilities industry)
  • Very strong Excel skills along with ability on other MS Office tools in particular Access, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Experience in building Power BI tools is beneficial.
  • A good understanding of SCADA or other Industrial Control Systems or Digital Data Insight Tools is beneficial.
  • A basic understanding of the regulatory environment we operate in is preferred.
  • Understanding of change management methodology.
