Care Home Nurse
As a nurse working for a care home, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality nursing care to residents. You will work as a member of the nursing team, carrying out all relevant forms of care in conjunction with other nurse practitioners. Ensuring that care services are consistently provided to a high-quality standard, ensuring the personal care needs of residents are met while respecting the dignity of the individual and promoting independence. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being and health of the elderly or individuals with various medical conditions who reside in the care home. We will be carrying out supervisions as part of your job role.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Work as part of an efficient team and contribute to the smooth running of the Home, working to the policies and procedures of the company and operating within NMC guidelines
- Continue professional development through attending and contributing to internal/external training and development, meetings, and supervisions
- Comply with all relevant regulations and company policies, including health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding
- Represent the company in a professional and positive manner at all times and in all communications with residents, visitors, and staff
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all issues and information relating to residents and the company
- Accurately assess the needs of residents and identify priorities of care
- Administer all medication and treatments within NMC guidelines and company medication policy
- Report any ill-health amongst residents and make requests for GP/professional visits where necessary
- Report incidents or concerns related to safeguarding adults to the safeguard team
- Ensure residents’ care plans are completed and maintained in conjunction with residents, relatives, and other healthcare professionals, and in accordance with NMC guidelines & association policy
- Assess all aspects of residents’ care needs, providing health supervision and direct nursing care when required
- Maintain accurate records and ensure each resident within the Home has an individualized care plan
- Review resident care plans monthly, or more frequently as required, in accordance with NMC guidelines & company policy
- Ensure a clear and concise handover report is given to all relevant staff members at the end of each shift
- Assist in delivering care for residents who are terminally ill or have a progressive illness
- Contribute to protecting vulnerable adults from abuse
- Support new staff members in all aspects of their work in the home, giving help and guidance where appropriate
- Act as a mentor to new and less experienced staff members, providing relevant training/coaching
Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures, including medication administration and wound care
- Ability to empathize and communicate effectively with residents, families, and the care team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine interest in caring for older adults
- Flexibility to work day, evening, night shifts, and weekends as required
