An exciting opportunity has arisen in Critical Care at University Hospitals Birmingham for a band 7 trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) to join the well established team at one of the largest critical care departments in the UK. Once qualified the successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply for an 8a ACCP post.
This dynamic, diverse role supports the medical and nursing teams to deliver high quality care to complex critically ill patients providing leadership, expertise, advice and support on the Critical Care Units. This varied role involves formulating complex treatment plans, inserting invasive lines, managing airways and independent prescribing for critically ill patients, amongst many other advanced skills required for the post.
The post-holder will be supernumerary for a minimum of two years, whilst being supervised by the ACCP and senior medical teams. The trainee ACCP will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and integrity to make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.
Applicants must have extensive post registration experience at a senior level (Band 6 or above/ equivalent) in specialty area. You must also be prepared to undertake an MSc course in advanced practice, to be completed within 3 years of commencement. The applicant must also have excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, which will be assessed as part of the interview process.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The aim of the trainee ACCP program is to develop an autonomous practitioner working within the Critical Care Units. Core skills will include patient assessment, appropriate ordering and interpretation of investigations, procedural skills including line insertion and discharge to the ward.
The ACCP will play a key role in providing care to our patients and will be expected to work closely with the consultant team to drive standards of care and innovation, supporting education, research and audit and developing practice.

Professional Health Care Registration with a UK Regulated Body (NMC /HCPC /GPC)
Evidence of Degree Level study / BSc / Degree Level Qualification or equivalent CATS
Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience.
