The post holder will be employed to undertake all the appropriate duties specified in the job description across a variety of Trust owned properties.
The post holder will be expected to carry out periods of working alone and there is an expectation to work at heights.
The post holder will be competent and have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of decoration to enable them to achieve and apply the skills where required.
The post holder will be working both internally and externally.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
To undertake planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and emergency works as demanded by a Hospital of this type. Use all skills, experience and knowledge ensuring safe working methods to carry out maintenance tasks in the most cost effective way for the Trust
To understand the workings of buildings, engineering services and systems in NHS/Trust premises. Ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner
To carry out work in a timely manner as requested using the current works requisition system and ensuring that any associated information is recorded.
To work as part of a departmental team and where necessary support colleagues of all levels and disciplines as required.
To provide a maintenance service to all Trust buildings, off site properties and be able to work unsupervised.
To maintain continuity of service there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns, duties or location are required.
To keep up to date with current legislation and attend training courses as directed by Estate Management
To be able to work safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, current guidance and to follow any other safety policies as issued by the Trust

Qualifications
Essential
City & Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate in a relevant Painting & Decorating, Building or Construction discipline (E)
Plus,
City & Guilds of London Institute Advanced Craft Certificate in a relevant Painting & Decorating, Building or Construction discipline (E)
Or,
An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in a relevant Painting & Decorating, Building or Construction discipline (E)
Or,
BTEC/ONC in Painting & Decorating, Building
Or Construction Services (E)
Desirable
* Additional relevant Competencies
Experience
Essential
Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in Painting & Decorating, Building or Construction for a minimum of 3 years (E)
Plus
At least 2 years post training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility (E)
And
Background in Painting & Decorating, Building or Construction installation, alteration, maintenance or repair (E)
And
Experience of Building components and surface finishes (E)
Desirable
* Previous experience of working in an acute Hospital environment or similar demanding role
Additional Criteria
Essential
*
* Ability to work without supervision and confident to take decisions based on own ability.
* Adaptable to change.
* Available for undertaking overtime.
* Physically demanding role requiring manual handling of loads, extremes of temperature and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
* Appreciation of his/her own limitations
Desirable
* Clean driving license
