We are looking to recruit a skilled tradesperson / Carpenter with a friendly and positive “can do” attitude. You will attend to carpentry repairs and PPM duties, you will have the skills and expertise to be able to identify the problem(s) and find and fix issues within the NHS and Trust owned or run properties in the surrounding area.
You will have the ability to carry out varied carpentry duties to a competent standard.
You will be working in a team, and have the ability to undertake standalone tasks, with an emphasis on a quality finish, to meet with our customers high expectations.
You will conduct work in accordance with current legislation, British Standards Codes of Practice, safe systems of work and recognised industry standards to minimise damage to the fabric of the property and to create minimal disruptions to our patients and visitors.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
A Carpenter Joiner will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialist skills and level of qualification.
Performs work of routine and non-routine, non-complex and complex nature responsible for all repairs and routine planned maintenance activities as directed by management.
Ensure compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
Taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
You will also be expected to carry out additional work involving glazing, locksmith, door hardware, door repairs and woodwork machinery.
Use complex carpentry equipment and machinery as required in accordance with all legislative and statutory guidance.
Carry out new work, installation and refurbishment work throughout the Trust.
Carry out glazing repairs as and when required.
Carry out installation and repairs to metal and fibre ceilings.
Communicate with Ward Managers, department managers, patients and visitors and other Trust staff.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Basic education to GCSE/’O’ Level in Maths and English or post-secondary Education in a relevant field
* City & Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate in Course 6217-02 Carpentry & Joinery
Or,
* An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery.
Or,
* BTEC/ONC in Building or Construction Services.
Desirable
* Additional relevant Competencies
Experience
Essential
* Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in Building or Construction for a minimum of 3 years
Plus
* At least 2 years post training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility.
And
* Background in Building or Construction installation, alteration, maintenance, or repair.
And
* Experience of Building plant, equipment, and woodworking machinery.
* Capable working to deadlines.
* Reasonably clear and effective in verbal and written communications.
Desirable
* Previous experience of working in an acute Hospital environment or similar demanding role
Additional Criteria
Essential
* Ability to work without supervision and confident to take decisions based on own ability.
* Adaptable to change.
* Available for undertaking overtime.
* Physically demanding role requiring manual handling of loads, extremes of temperature and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
* Appreciation of his/her own limitations
Desirable
