Attendance and Welfare Officer – East London
Are you a passionate, dedicated Attendance and Welfare Officer looking for your next role? 4Recruitment Services are recruiting an Attendance and Welfare Officer to join a team based in Wapping.
Umbrella Rate: £14 – £16 per hour
Duration: Ongoing
Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hrs/week
Attendance and Welfare Officer role: Full JD Available
- Responsible for monitoring and increasing whole-school attendance, maintaining and promoting school safeguarding practices and building relationships with vulnerable students and their families
- Ensure the students are present and supported in a way that means they can access learning
- Positively promote good attendance through interactions with students, preparing notices such as whole-school displays, letters to parents, awarding certificates
- Contact parents and carers of absent students on a daily basis, ensuring unexplained absences are accounted for and monitored using SIMS
- Advise parents about benefits and help they are entitles to for example free school meals, clothing grants and assistance with transport costs
- Be proactive in spotting patterns of unexplained student absences
- Challenge low pupil attendance in order to promote a culture of positive attendance and punctuality
- Monitor the attendance of vulnerable groups of students and liaise with relevant staff
- Undertake home visits to students and parents as designated by the school to encourage improved attendance and establish action plans
- Liaise with the safeguarding team regarding child protection issues that may arise in the course of attendance-related queries
- Court action and fixed penalty notice referral
- Uphold the schools attendance policy and send out letters as requested, maintaining records of communications with parents on file
- Undertake attendance inspection and whole school audits as requiredMaintain absolute confidentiality in all school-related matters and prevent disclosure of information on sensitive personal issues
- Maintain records and produce reports as necessary, including tracking documents
- Produce termly reports on attendance for the Headteacher’s report to governors
- Weekly meetings with the pastoral lead and other relevant staff
Essential Requirements
- Experience of working with students and young people in a school environment, preferably at key stages 3 and 4
- Have the experience of improving students with poor attendance#
- Experience of dealing with student behaviour
- Excellent and empathetic communicator with students, parents/carers and staff
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Good general level of education including 5 GCSE’s graded A* – C (including English and Maths)
- Knowledge of SIMS and excellent IT skills
- You Must Have Right to Live & Work in the UK
- Enhanced Child DBS registered to the update service
