Glenalmond College is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Art and Design Technician to join its Design Faculty. This role involves supporting the delivery of a broad curriculum in Art, Design, and Technology by preparing and maintaining materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons. The successful candidate will ensure a safe, well-resourced environment, assist teaching staff, manage stock levels, and contribute to student projects and exhibitions. An ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in Art and Design, strong communication skills, and practical experience, with previous experience in a school or design environment being desirable.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Art and Design Technician to join the vibrant and Design Faculty at Glenalmond College. This is an exciting opportunity to support a dynamic Faculty delivering a broad and engaging curriculum in Art, Design, and Technology.

Working closely with our teaching staff, the Technician will play a key role in preparing and maintaining materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that all lessons are well-resourced, safe, and inspiring for our pupils.

Main Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and maintain materials, tools, and specialist equipment for Art and Design & Technology lessons.

  • Provide practical support to teaching staff during lessons, including assisting students with equipment and materials where appropriate.

  • Monitor and maintain all equipment, undertaking basic repairs and arranging servicing where required.

  • Ensure a safe and orderly working environment by adhering to and promoting health and safety procedures.

  • Manage stock levels through regular inventory checks, ordering supplies in line with department needs and budgetary guidelines.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of creative, hands-on projects that enhance pupil engagement and learning.

  • Support the display and exhibition of pupil work across the school and at internal/external events.

  • Contribute to the organisation and smooth running of the Design Faculty as an integral team member.

Ideal Candidate: Person Specification

Essential:

  • A genuine interest in Art, Design and/or Technology with practical experience in one or more of these areas.

  • Organised, efficient, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

  • Strong communication skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach to supporting pupils and teachers.

  • An understanding of health and safety in a practical workshop or studio setting.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a school, studio, or design environment.

  • Skills in areas such as ceramics, photography, printmaking, woodwork, or digital media.

  • Basic maintenance and repair skills for workshop tools and equipment.
