Thames Water is seeking an Abstraction Engineer to join the company on a permanent basis. The role involves scoping and delivering projects in the East London Abstraction area, with a focus on compliance with the Reservoir Act and healthy raw water storage. Job Description:Thames Water is looking for an Abstraction Engineer to join us permanently.
This is a unique and exciting role. You will scope and help to deliver projects in the East London Abstraction area. You will make use of your technical knowledge and also work with key stakeholders to do this. The projects will contribute to high-level business objectives, namely compliance with the Reservoir Act and healthy raw water storage. You will have a real opportunity to shape and influence the future of our operation.
What you will be doing as an Abstraction Engineer
- Work with colleagues to identify short- and longer-term risks to asset performance and resilience, ensuring that this is escalated appropriately on our area heatmap.
- Scope projects, with input from colleagues, and issue formal briefs to our Capital Maintenance Projects team for subsequent delivery.
- Influence future asset plans, making use of asset condition data and other justification, for subsequent delivery by Capital Delivery.
- Identify and oversee the completion of enabling activities for Capital Delivery projects. This involves the availability of key assets, operation strategies, and health and safety documentation.
- Ensure familiarity with our internal Reservoir Safety Manual and the external Reservoir Safety regulations, taking ownership of the technical requirements. This involves working with respective Supervising Engineers to ensure that risks are captured and that projects are in flight to resolve them, and the administration of documents that are key for compliance purposes.
- To fulfil the above, you will attend interim and annual Supervising Engineers’ inspections of reservoirs.
- Embrace holistic thinking at all times. Ensure that the business priorities of safety and water quality are not compromised, whilst identifying and following through on opportunities that make our operation more efficient.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that we understand our asset condition and that our maintenance plan is fit for purpose. You will actively seek opportunities to use new technology and data to innovate.
What should you bring to the role?
- Lead and role model for safety and water quality.
- An understanding of regulatory environments, and how it affects operations – Reservoir Safety is key.
- Organisation, prioritisation and a proven ability to work at pace.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and teamwork.
- Previous experience in a utility, or other process industry.
- A technical or engineering background would be beneficial.
