Are you ready for your next challenge?! An exciting NEW POST has been created in our pharmacy clinical trials team here at University Hospitals Birmingham (Queen Elizabeth Site) to oversee our haematology cancer trial portfolio working closely with our Haematology Lead Trials Pharmacist. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced pharmacy technician to ensure the technical review, smooth set up and running of this subset of trials. You will have a close working relationship with the pharmacy aseptic unit, clinical haematology team and haematology research team.
We have a diverse and growing trials portfolio which will allow the post-holder to gain experience in a variety of haematology settings, including early phase, first-in-man, CAR-T, bispecific antibodies and Advanced Therapy trials. It is an exciting time to be involved in clinical trials at UHB.
Applicants who don’t meet the criteria in the person specification relating to clinical trials but who can demonstrate sufficient post-registration hospital experience working in a aseptic unit are invited to apply and will be appointed in a progressional post under Agenda for Change Annex 21 (payment at 75% of the maximum band 6 pay, uplifted to the starting pay of a band 6 as per Agenda for Change on completion of required competencies.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The post holder will:
– manage a team of technicians and ATOs
– be responsible for the smooth day-to-day management of the haematology clinical trials service from the aseptic unit, trials pharmacy and the main dispensaries, providing an efficient and timely service to the trust.
– have a keen eye for detail and have the technical knowledge of aseptic services to review trial documents to allow successful review, set up and delivery of our investigational medicinal products
– have the ability to work on their own and within a team, manage their time effectively and be able to act as a team leader, motivating others.
You will also have access to learning, development and training opportunities to allow you to acquire the skills and knowledge to deliver the best possible pharmacy trials service for our patients and service users.

Qualifications
Essential
*NVQ Level 3 (Pharmacy Services) plus accredited underpinning knowledge BTEC/ City & Guilds (in Pharmaceutical Science) or equivalent
*Professional Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
*Evidence of continued Professional Development
*Leeds University course in Aseptic Dispensing and Preparation of Medicines or willing to complete
*Accredited Checking Technician
*Specialist formal training in Good Clinical Practice(GCP)
Desirable
*Formal Leadership qualification
*Professional Registration with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
*NVQ level 4 in management or equivalent knowledge and experience
Experience
Essential
*Broad, up-to date and in depth knowledge of issues relating to clinical trials including knowledge of ICHGCP guidelines and Clinical Trials Legislation.
*High level knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), MHRA licensing requirements, COSHH
*Specialist knowledge of clean room technology, Quality Assurance and Aseptic dispensing/preparation.
*Demonstrates responsibility for complying with agreed personal development programme to meet set knowledge and competencies.
*Knowledge of HR policies and procedures.
*Minimum 6 years post-qualification pharmacy experience.
*Minimum 3 years experience working in aseptic services equivalent to post graduate and diploma level.
*Experience of Cytotoxic Aseptic dispensing
*Providing specialist technical advice to others i.e. manufacturing methods
*Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues
*Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
*Demonstrates an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
*Demonstrates the ability to be able to handle safely and competently pharmaceutical equipment and medicines used in the dispensing process
