With the rapidly changing environment and all the complexities this brings, working as an Operations Performance Manager will give you a wealth of different activities to sink your teeth into.

We have a great opportunity for a role working at one of the largest treatment works in Oxfordshire where you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Oxford Wastewater Treatment plant, where you will overlook the running of the Thermal Hydrolysis Plant (THP), the Sewage Treatment plant and the surrounding Terminal Pumping stations, the liaison into the future capital project upgrade and the managing of a team.

With the impact of our operations on the environment being at the forefront of everything we do, you will be tasked to drive improvements in the operations of your sites and the assets within them, looking at ways to change what we do for the better of all parties, mainly our customers and of course THE ENVIRONMENT.

To achieve your goals, you will need to inspire and motivate your team whilst also being able to empathise and understand each person in your team helping us build a strong team environment.

You will operate out of the main site at Oxford but will visit other sites making a driving licence and car owner essential as you will need to travel throughout your working week. You will work 36 hours a week Monday to Friday, along with participating in an out-of-hours rota for escalations and advice as we are a 24-hour business.

What you’ll be doing as the Performance Manager?

  • Health and Safety – This is our number 1 priority for everyone in our team and you will effectively lead the Health & Safety culture of the team as well as driving and creating an environment where good practices are a way of everyday life and total compliance is adhered to.
  • Process Management – We need to protect our environment and we are looking for someone who can effectively performance manage our Sewage Treatment Works site compliance by ensuring the site achieves and maintains its required plant availability and reliability to meet quality targets that are set by our regulator.
  • Performance Management – Driving the team to achieve optimal performance in terms of work management, along with being responsible for developing the team and introducing new skills and Health & Safety awareness.
  • Financial Management – owning and managing the budgetary and financial activities of the team and driving efficiencies into the overall operational budget.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Management – ensuring exceptional service to our customers with early personal interventions as required.

Base Location: Oxford STW – OX4 4XU.

Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday-Friday plus the inclusion onto a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.

We are looking for an experienced people manager, who can make a difference and has:

  • Proven working experience of successfully managing an operational team, being able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to develop, coach, motivate and engage a team. Connecting and collaborating intensively within your team and across the organisation.
  • Experience in leading and demanding a Health & Safety culture, driving and creating an environment where good practices are a way of everyday life and total compliance is adhered to. Ideally, you will be NEBOSH or equivalent qualified.
  • A leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen and offer sound feedback. A vision for the business and the wider team, the ability to adapt and be decisive in a rapid fast-paced environment.
  • An Engineering background along with the technical knowledge and experience of complex process plants (ideally THP, anaerobic digesters, boilers, sludge dewatering plants, and CHP engines) will be underpinned by a background in wastewater treatment or a similar industry.
  • You will have experience managing an operational budget with a structured and proactive approach.
  • Proven track record of raising the standards within a team.
  • Computer literate. Be able to analyse data on Microsoft Packages such as Excel/word / PowerPoint.
