Care Home Nurse

As a Care Home Nurse, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality nursing care to residents. Working collaboratively with other nurse practitioners, you will ensure that care services consistently meet high standards, respecting residents’ dignity and promoting their independence. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being and health of the elderly or individuals with various medical conditions residing in the care home.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work efficiently as part of a team, adhering to policies, procedures, and NMC guidelines.
  • Engage in professional development through training, meetings, and supervisions.
  • Comply with all relevant regulations, including health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding.
  • Maintain confidentiality and represent the care home professionally at all times.

  • Accurately assess residents’ needs and administer medication and treatments according to NMC guidelines.
  • Report any ill-health among residents and request professional visits as necessary.
  • Complete and maintain residents’ care plans, ensuring they are reviewed regularly.
  • Provide health supervision, direct nursing care, and contribute to protecting vulnerable adults.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure effective handovers between shifts.
  • Assist in the care of residents with terminal or progressive illnesses and ensure all equipment is clean and well-maintained.

  • Support new staff members and act as a mentor to less experienced staff, providing relevant training and guidance.

  • Represent the care home professionally in all dealings with individuals and external contacts.
  • Maintain good relationships with residents, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in staff and resident meetings as required and provide administrative support when necessary.

Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of nursing practices, including medication administration and wound care.
  • Effective communication and empathy with residents, families, and the care team.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Patience, compassion, and a genuine interest in caring for older adults.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
