Job Summary by the Career Balance Team:

A gluing operator position is available at a privately owned manufacturer of printed folding cartons in Elland. The operator will be responsible for setting up and running gluing machines to produce high-quality cartons. They will also carry out quality checks, maintain the machine, and report any faults to the production manager. Previous experience in the print/packaging industries and operating carton gluing machines is required. The operator should have excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to work well under pressure. The ability to work on projects of diverse scope and a disciplined approach to achieving objectives are also desired.

Salary:       £17.46 per hour/£36,316.80 per year.

Hours:        Continental shift pattern

  • Monday to Thursday 6am to 6pm (DAYS)
  • Sunday to Wednesday 6pm to 6am (NIGHTS)
  • (You then get a week off and the return)
  • Wednesday to Sunday 6pm to 6am (NIGHTS)

cartons, they operate industry leading state of the art machinary and pride themselves on quality products and service.

Overview:

Setting up and efficient running of the gluing machinery within the company’s operations.

Role:

  • Ensure the smooth running of the gluing machines producing high quality cartons from, straight line and crash lock.
  • Make ready and run machines.
  • Install feeder bars and adjust guide assembly and folding mechanism according to carton dimensions and work order specifications, using hand tools.
  • Fill glue reservoir, load feed mechanism with carton blanks
  • Follow instructions given on the works job ticket regarding run speeds and special instructions.
  • Carry out quality checks at pre-determined intervals throughout the running of the job.
  • Instruct gluing assistants as to what they should be doing i.e. packaging and inspection requirements.
  • Have good working relationships with all individuals and departments.
  • Ensure that the machine is kept clean and tidy at all times and that maintenance programmes are followed and documented.
  • Report any faults immediately to the Production Manager.
  • Ability to deal with and speak to engineers directly, depending on the nature of the fault.
  • Carry out regular stock checks of consumables and spare parts, informing the relevant people when they require reordering sufficiently in advance to avoid shortages.
  • As a member of small team, you will be expected to cover for absenteeism and holidays and will perform any other duties as and when required. (All overtime is, time and a half)
  • Have a degree of personal flexibility as you may be expected, to cover other Diana operator’s holidays.
    Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for, health and safety, hygiene and quality standards, legal stipulations, environmental policies, and general duty of care.
  • The operator will be given First Aid/De-fib training.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience and a thorough understanding of the print/packaging industries and related businesses.
  • Have previous experience of operating Carton gluing machines.
  • Preferably have experience of running a Diana 115 Folder Gluer (not essential). 
  • Experience of straight line, crash lock cartons
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work on projects of diverse scope
