We’re seeking engaging GCSE English Tutors (Language & Literature) to deliver clear, exam-focused online classes. You’ll combine strong subject knowledge with a warm, charismatic presence that motivates students. Candidates who can teach both Language and Literature across AQA/Edexcel/OCR are preferred.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver 2–6 hour-long group lessons each week in GCSE English Language & Literature.
- Bring core skills to life: close reading, analytical writing, SPaG, creative/transactional writing, comparison, and evaluation.
- Model exam technique (PEE/PEEL, planning, timing, structure) and use our ready-made slide decks, model answers, and weekly topic timetable.
- Provide concise, actionable feedback via low-stakes tasks, exit tickets and quick checks for understanding.
- Foster a positive, supportive classroom culture that boosts participation and confidence.
- Be open to coaching, adopt our teaching methods and refine your practice through ongoing training.
- Engage directly with students, adapt pace to the room, and differentiate where needed.
- Teach at fixed weekly times according to your availability.
- Complete ad-hoc tasks at the instruction of the Co-Founders.
- (Optional) Feature in social media content for marketing and testimonials.
Preferred qualifications
- Top marks at GCSE & A-Level English (or equivalent).
- Strong (minimum) Bachelor’s degree in English/related field (or currently studying).
- PGCE/QTS welcome (not essential).
Experience
- Minimum 1 year tutoring/teaching English (Language and/or Literature).
- Track record working with mixed-ability groups—supporting both grade-boost and top-grade aims.
- Familiarity with AQA/Edexcel/OCR exam requirements and assessment objectives.
Literature familiarity (ideal)
Experience teaching and/or strong familiarity with at least some of the following GCSE set texts:
- Macbeth (Shakespeare)
- A Christmas Carol (Dickens)
- An Inspector Calls (Priestley)
- Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare)
- Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (Stevenson)
Crucial soft skills
- Excellent communication and classroom presence online.
- Patient, adaptable, upbeat—able to inspire and motivate.
- Strong organisation and time management.
- Distinctive teaching personality (not a lecture style).
Work environment
- Lessons on Zoom, scheduled via our online platform.
- Fully remote team communication.
- All resources and Zoom accounts provided.
- WhatsApp responses expected within 12 hours.
- Lessons recorded for safeguarding and quality assurance.
