36Job Description:We currently have an exciting opportunity for 3 dynamic individuals to take on the important role of Assistant Incident Manager based out of our Kemble Court site in Reading.

The Assistant Incident Manager role will be working within the Operational Resilience team to improve the operational resilience of the business by developing emergency response plans in line with the Local Authorities, government and stakeholders’ expectations. You will also support operations in evaluating risks and managing our response to incidents in line with the emergency plans and incident management strategy. This will be to improve our ability to respond effectively to incidents through excellent communications, stakeholder management and continuous improvement.

It is envisaged the successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual who can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too in an ever-changing environment

Base Location: Reading – Kemble Court – RG2 6AD

Working Pattern or Hours: 36 Hours (EDA Alternating shift 06:00 -22:00 7 days a week).

What you’ll be doing as an Assistant Incident Manager

  • Write internal plans to be used when an incident scenario is in flight and ensure they are fit for purpose, through desktop exercising.
  • Understand the external plans that the team will also need to adhere to and comment back to the owners to reflect the capability of Thames Water.
  • Ensure the Incident Managers are prepared and understand the internal and external needs for each type of scenario, finding easy ways to collate the information.
  • Be able to stand up during incidents to support operations and ensure the people involved understand the format and information required for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective communication during and after all incidents, both with internal and external stakeholders, customers and regulators, in line with the expectations and requirements of the incident.
  • Take part in learning from incidents and feed this back into the planning, through identifying and logging, and participate in continuous improvement activities to improve customer and stakeholder satisfaction, and environmental compliance.
  • Utilise all available business decision support systems e.g., Incident Viewer.

What you should bring to the role

  • Understanding of Water and Wastewater operations is preferable. But not essential.
  • Ability to learn to use appropriate Company IT systems and Office software, as well as specialist Incident Management tools.
  • Good decision-making skills, in a risk-based environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good relationship management and leadership skills.
  • Understand operational resilience what it means to Thames Water and how we embed it into our ways of working.
  • Ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise conflicting requirements.
  • Previous experience managing operational incidents is preferable. But not essential.
