61Job Description:Position: Housing Assistant
Location: EH22 Area
Salary: £14.47 per hour
Working Hours: Monday-Thursday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Friday: 9:00 am – 3:30 pm (with lunch break)
Our client is a forward-thinking organization committed to providing high-quality housing services to the community. We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Housing Assistant to join our client’s team based in the EH22 area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the main contact point and coordinator for telephony contact within the Housing Services Team.
- Provide housing options advice to a diverse range of customers, including:
- Interviewing and assessing customers during the acceptance of housing applications to the Common Housing Register.
- Explaining client’s Housing Allocation policy.
- Clarifying other housing options and tenures available using client’s web-based housing options guide.
- Explaining the client’s online house exchange service.
- Make referrals to external services and other departments.
- Accurately and promptly process housing application forms.
- Assess housing applicants’ needs, including points calculation and list categorization, following the client’s Housing Allocation Policy.
- Maintain the Common Housing Register, reviewing housing applicant circumstances annually.
- Update change of circumstances for housing applicants and notify other teams.
- Upload photographs to the client’s online house exchange service, determining eligibility of house swap requests and requesting tenancy reports.
- Approve applications for garage lockups and sites, maintain and review waiting lists, and allocate when available.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork is obtained, and notes are added to operating systems for audit purposes, performance monitoring, and statistical reporting to the Scottish Government.
- Create spreadsheets when required to monitor service improvements and provide performance information to customers.
- Develop and maintain links with other service providers and services, collaborating with social work, education, property services, police, tenancy support services, housing associations, and other local authorities.
- Assist the Housing Services Team Leader and Housing Officer Team in discharging duties as required.
- Perform general office duties, including the collection and delivery of mail, ordering stationary, organizing meetings, and distributing minutes as required.
- Undertake any other appropriate duties as directed by senior staff.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- 2 Highers, including English, or SVQ equivalent combined with necessary experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office or similar spreadsheet and word processing applications.
